The Band Bacon and Bones
In 2001 guitarist Dirk Spek and bass guitarist Ellen Bones started the band Bacon and Bones. The name of the band originated from joining the two surnames and giving it an English touch. Since then the band has been noted, which in November 2003 resulted in winning the Frisian song contest ‘LIET 2003’ with their song “It Allerheechste Guod” (“The Highest Good”) (text/music D. Spek).
In 2005 the prize-winning song “Dut Stikky Lând” (“This Piece of Land”) was written in honour of the five-hundredth anniversary of the Frisian rural district Het Bildt (text/music D. Spek/E. Bones). The same year the debut album “Well Done” was released containing a variety of the band’s own tracks – from spirited rock ballads to modern country rock – which was appreciated by a broad public. In the autumn of 2006 a second album “Home At The Horizon” was released. This CD contains 16 of our own tracks of which the style varies from cool country to melodious country rock. The album was fully produced by Bacon and Bones music productions. For musical fragments, see page Mp3's
Many times by now, the band Bacon and Bones has made its appearance successfully within the Province of Friesland as well as outside the provincial borders. Also from abroad the band gets noticed. Albums have been sold to U.S.A., England, Canada, Australia, Switserland, Austria, Germany and Belgium. There are plans to release an album in Australia.
